As you know, Wheelwright have been advocates for the usage of winter wheels and tyres for five years now. The inherent safety benefits are undeniable, not to mention the efficiency savings to be had. Tyresafe, the aptly named tyre safety campaigners, are running a new competition to promote the checking of tyres ready for the more inclement seasons ahead.

What better way to get ready for winter than by fitting a brand new set of tyres to your car?

Tyresafe’s website explains: “With plenty of tread depth, motorists can benefit from maximum safety and control in the wet with a reduced risk of aquaplaning. And after last year’s record wet winter, who knows what’s in store for us this year.” October is nominated “Tyre Safety Month”, and to promote this, Tyresafe are offering motorists the chance to win a brand new set of tyres, including fitting (up to the value of £300) simply by sending them a #TyreSelfie – a picture of you taking the 20p test on your car.

What’s the 20p test?

Tyresafe explain this test: “To take the 20p test, simply place a 20p coin into the main tread grooves of your car’s tyres. If the outer band of the coin is obscured when inserted, then your tyres are above the legal minimum tread depth of 1.6mm. However, if the outer band of the coin is visible when inserted then they may be unsafe or illegal and should be inspected immediately by a tyre professional.”

To enter the competition:

To enter the competition, simply upload your picture of you taking the 20p test to the Photo Contest App on Tyresafe’s Facebook page before 5pm on Friday 31st October. Winners will be picked at random and notified by Friday 7th November. And remember, even if you don’t win, by taking the 20p test you’ll be safe in the knowledge that your tyres will be able to cope with any winter downpours!
