So, plainly Tyre Safety is important all year round – checking the tread depth, quality of tread, sidewalls and pressures should be done regularly. Established in 2006, TyreSafe, one of the UK’s leading tyre safety organisations, is dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers associated with defective or illegal tyres and has a specific focus each year in October. This year, they’ve chosen tyre pressure as their focus and they’ve compiled this video to push the message home. We’re not sure if it is supposed to be as amusing and tongue-in-cheek as it seems, but humour is always one way to get a message to stick, and this video is hilarious…
TyreSafe explain the need for correct tyre inflation: “Correct tyre pressure is vital to your safety on the road. Under-inflated tyres affect handling and grip, potentially causing irregular or unpredictable vehicle behaviour. They are also much more likely to suffer from a dangerous blowout, especially on high-speed motorway journeys. By keeping your tyres at their optimum pressure, your running costs are also reduced. Under-inflated tyres require a bigger force to make them turn, so your car uses more fuel. Additionally, tyres which are not set to their correct pressure wear out more quickly. So, to benefit from lower fuel bills, longer tyre life, increased safety and reduced CO2 emissions, make sure you check your tyre pressures at least once a month and before a long journey.”
